Programme Information
The objective of this programme is to help make a significant reduction in child labour by the end of 2007, in line with the government’s strategy of eliminating the worst forms of child labour by 2015. For this purpose, national and regional capacity will be enhanced for the removal of children from the worst forms of child labour and prevention of at-risk children from entering such work.
The Programme will be implemented in Sinop, Van, Ordu, Çankırı, Kastamonu, Erzurum and Elazığ provinces, where Provincial Programme Coordination Offices,  Provincial Action Committees and Child Labour Monitoring Systems will be established.
Achieved or Expected Results
  • The capacity of Child Labour Unit of Ministry of Labour and Social Security to plan, manage, coordinate, monitor and implement child labour-related activities at the national and local levels is enhanced.
  • A Baseline Survey providing data on children at ages between 6-17 working in the worst forms of child labour in the seven selected provinces is available and accessible to all users.
  • Provincial Programme Coordination Offices have been established and have sufficient infrastructure and human resources available to provide educational, withdrawal, preventative, monitoring and counselling services to working children and their families in the seven selected provinces.
  • Operational Provincial Action Committees in the seven selected provinces have been established.
  • Comprehensive Child Labour Monitoring Systems (including School-Based Child Labour Monitoring Systems in selected schools) established and are active in the identification and referral of child labour cases in the seven selected provinces
  • National and local capacity to conduct advocacy, raise public awareness and initiate policy dialogue is enhanced
  • Withdrawal and prevention of child labour is secured through the provision of education and counselling services to targeted children (at least 1000 children) and their families (at least 70 families).
