“Before the earthquake, the area between Kurtuluş Street, Saray Street and the Asi River was Hatay’s bazaar, the heart of the city. It was also the centre of gastronomy. It symbolised interfaith dialogue with its mosques, churches and synagogues very close to each other; shopkeepers in the bazaar would close their shops and celebrate feasts together, regardless of the religion.”
