Short Film Competition

The Delegation of the European Commission to Turkey organized in 2008 a short film competition on the topic of intercultural dialogue, as part of its communication activities on the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008.

The competition was organised in partnership with Ankara University’s Communication Faculty as well as its Centre for European Studies, and enjoyed the support of Radio Mydonose.

Prizes

  • The winner of the competition won a trip to Oberhausen International Short Film Festival in Germany and a Shadow Edius DVX Desktop Editing System.
  • The first runner-up was awarded a trip to Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France and an Edius Neo Pro Notebook Editing System.
  • The second runner-up won a trip to Rotterdam International Film Festival in the Netherlands and an Edius Neo Notebook Editing System.

Winners

The winner: Human-ity - Eray Mert
Human-ity: Something in which you can place human beings - a film on a journey towards freedom.

The first Runner-up: Paper Boat - Yüksel Erol
Two dimensions of loneliness – a comparison of collective and individual isolation.

The second runner-up: Stones - Reyhan Meral
A film that combines stones as the witness of time, and the foreign words uttered by children without having a clue to their meaning – a short poem on cultural destruction in a globalised world.

Special Prize: From Where It Left Off - Mehmet Atan
The re-take of a story where it left off - the resurrection of a heart in another body, without anyone noticing as it grows
