Where Does Youth Stand within the Lisbon Strategy?

Lycia Development Association (Likya Gelişim ve Kalkınma Derneği) has released a booklet about the outcomes of their project that hosted 36 youngsters from 7 countries in Alanya.

Lycia Development Association has discussed Lisbon Strategy, which is one of the most important treaties of European Union, with 36 youngsters from 7 different countries (Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia and Turkey) and experts from Turkey in August 2009. The project financed by the Centre for European Union Education and Youth Programmes Turkish National Agency is the first youth project to be organized in Turkey on Lisbon Strategy. Presentations were delivered on the main themes of Lisbon Strategy which are Education, Innovation, Environment – Energy and Employability by the experts from Turkish National Agency, TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey), Republic of Turkey Ministry of Energy And Natural Resources, Economic Development Foundation and Akdeniz University. Alanya Municipality and ALTSO (Alanya Chamber of Industry and Commerce) also contributed to the activities during the project as local supporters.

The opening speech of the presentation meeting of ‘Where does youth stand within the Lisbon Strategy?’ project was given by Mr. Mevlüt ÇAVUŞOĞLU (President of Turkish Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of The Council of Europe) that 36 participants from 7 countries took part. During the project, presentations entitled ‘Lisbon and Education’ by Oya BUMİN (expert from Turkish National Agency); ‘What is European Union Lisbon Strategy?’ and ‘Lisbon and Environment’ by Mahir ILGAZ (expert from Economic Development Foundation; ‘Lisbon and Energy’ by C. Burak BURAL (Assistant Expert from EU Coordination Directory of Ministry of Energy And Natural Resources), ‘Lisbon and Employability’ (Academic Staff of Akdeniz University, President of Europe without Visa, Euromaster Co-director), ‘Innovation’ by Serhat Çakır (Head of Science, Technology and Innovation Policies and Strategies Department, TÜBİTAK) were carried out. After the experts’ presentations, participants of the project briefed each of the topics pertaining to their countries and they have discussed why these topics important for them and how youth could promote those particular Lisbon objectives. The information presented and the ideas created throughout the project have been collected in a booklet.
