DIRECTORATE OF SECURITY AND THE EUROPEAN UNION MEET IN VAN

A 3-day seminar organised by Van EU Information Relay Office on the “Security Organisation in the EU Harmonisation Process” has been completed on August 29.

A total of 300 police officers and high-level security members participated in the seminars organised between 27-29 August and to which the security directorates of the provinces and 11 districts of Van, Erzurum, Batman, Iğdır, Hakkari, Muş, Bitlis and Ağrı provinces have been invited. The seminar topics included “Turkey-EU Relations”, “Police Ethics in EU Countries” as well as Police and Public Relations, Leadership and Motivation.

Noting that as the EU Information Relay Office of Van Chamber of Industry and Trade (VATSO) they were organising EU information activities for all segments of the society, Zahir Kandaşoğlu, President of the Board of VATSO said, ‘It would be to the advantage of Turkey for the Security Organisation to benefit from Turkey’s EU membership process in the best possible way. For that reason, we attach great importance to the training seminars we organise for the security members in co-operation with the Van Security Directorate. Distinguished speakers will provide the necessary information to the participants during the seminar whose preparations have been going on for a long period of time”.

In a statement he made on the issue, Van Security Director Mehmet Salih Kesmez said that Turkish Security Organization have been sensitively performing its tasks in line with the requirements brought along with the improvement of the country, and added that in the EU process, the Security Department has also been following up the developments, organizational structures, service understandings and public relation approaches of its counterparts in the EU member states.

Lecturers at the Police Academy -Prof. İbrahim Cerrah, Asst. Prof. Önder Aytaç, Associate Prof. Mehmet Özcan- and NLP Specialist Alişan Kapaklıkaya participated in the seminars as speakers.

Coordinator of Van EU Information Relay Office Kerem Oruç said: “As the EU Info Relay Office, for the last 1, 5 years we have been organizing seminars and activities on the EU for various segments of the society in our city and region. In this framework, we are very enthusiastic for gathering together in an EU training seminar as such a big group, including the security directorates in our region as well. In these three-day-training seminars, not only topics such as European Union and the work for alignment, but also professional issues like public relations, leadership, and motivation have been taken up. At the end of the seminars, we are happy to present the 300 participants with their certificates.”
