The high-level conference “Turkey and the EU: Together for a European Energy Policy” is organized jointly by Turkey and the European Commission in Istanbul on 5th June 2007. The Conference brought together key political and economic actors to discuss common challenges and opportunities, which both the EU and Turkey face in seeking to ensure their future energy security. From the Turkish side Chief Negotiator Ali Babacan and Energy Minister Hilmi Güler, from the EU side Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn, Commissioner for Energy Andris Piebalgs and the German State Secretary of the Foreign Office Georg Boomgaarden representing the current Presidency of the European Union addressed the Conference underlining the importance of Turkish-EU strategic cooperation on energy.
