In the European Parliament Building, the exhibition 'Turkey: The Miracle of Nature', organised by Doga Dernegi, BirdLife International’s Partner in Turkey, and hosted by Cem Özdemir, Member of the European Parliament, on 12-15 June 2007, presented photographs which highlight Turkey’s richness in biodiversity but also its urgent need for protection.

In the opening ceremony, Turkey's permanent representative to the EU Volkan Bozkir, European Commissioner responsible for Health and Consumer Protection Markos Kyprianou, Member of the European Parliament Cem Özdemir, and Nature Association Deputy Director Bahtiyar Kurt made speeches stressing the importance of Turkey’s nature and diversity.

Commissioner Kyprianou said the accession process will help Turkey improve its environmental standards, especially in the protection of water resources.
