Ahead of International Women's Day, President Barroso alongside Vice-President Viviane Reding presented today the Women's Charter aiming at building a gender perspective into all policies for the next five years. For President Barroso the Charter will be this Commission's "calling card". He added: "It sets out our commitment to promoting gender equality in and beyond Europe over the next five years. Also inside the Commission, equal opportunities have been high on my agenda. I am proud that the current Commission includes 9 women out of 27 members of the College. At the level of services we have managed to increase the share of women to 53% of all Commission staff."
