European Commission Launches Gender Equality Drawing Competition

In order to raise awareness with a concrete action targeting a younger public in the developing world, the European Commission is, for the fourth year in a row, organising an international drawing competition on gender equality.

The competition was launched on 8 March, International Women’s Day.

Eight to ten-year-old children from all over the world are being invited to show their vision of gender equality through the competition. This year's theme proposes to reflect on how girls and boys, women and men, together can make the world a better place.

A prize equivalent to 1 000 Euros will be offered to the winners from each region participating to the competition. The regions include ‘Mediterranean and Middle East’ and ‘other European Countries including Eastern Neighbours of the EU’.

The deadline for entries is and the winners will be selected at the end of June Selection by a jury composed of European children.

Last year, an eight-year-old from Egypt and a ten-year-old from Algeria were the winners in the Mediterranean region, while a ten-year-old from Ukraine won in the Eastern Neighbours and other European countries region.
Since the first edition of the competition in 2007, almost 60,000 children all over the world have contributed to the dialogue on gender equality at home and at school, while national and local authorities, as well as civil society, have often been closely involved.
