European Commission nominates TUBITAK Chairwoman to high-level advisory group on research

Nüket Yetiş, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) acting chairwoman, is named among 22 personalities in European Research Area Board (ERAB). These persons, elected in personal capacity, will provide independent advice to the European Commission on European research and science policy.

Janez Potočnik, Commissioner for Science and Research said: "There is strong need and support for making research in Europe more European. This can only be done in partnership with Member States, the research community, business and many other stakeholders.”

Other nominees include Ms Vaira Vike-Freiberga, former President of the Republic of Latvia and Ms Claudie Haigneré, former French Minister of Research and New Technologies (2002-4) and European Affairs (2004-5).

Mrs Yetiş hosted, right after her nomination, a key conference on April 17 – 18 in Ankara organised jointly between the European Commission Joint Research Centre and TUBITAK. “The Security Research Conference” gathered important stakeholders and policy makers from Europe as well as industry associations.
