EU: Sponsor of Arts and Culture

Addressing a group of Turkish and foreign journalists at the EU Information Centre in Istanbul, Mr Michael Vögele, Head of Section on Civil Society and Institution Building at the EC Delegation to Turkey, gave information about the Commission’s activities in the field of arts and culture and responded to the questions of the journalists.

Mr Vögele underlined that the EU policies in the area of culture aimed to preserve and support cultural diversity and richness and to help make these accessible to the general public. The Head of Section stated that the EU was supporting culture and arts through several programmes including the “Civil Society Dialogue: Culture in Action” Programme, Civil Society Dialogue between the EU and Turkey, Culture Programme, the European Capitals of Culture Programme as well as within the framework of the 2008 European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.
