EU Information Network "Go Local Go Beyond Borders" Photo Exhibition at the Europen Parliament

EU Information Network delivers the “Go Local Go Beyond Borders” photo exhibition to the European Parliament. Accompanied by tunes from the Ney (reed flute) and percussion the participants of the event organized by the European Parliament Brussels Information Office in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Commission to Turkey, will join an impressive journey of 80 photos depicting how the citizens in Turkey are informed of the EU.

The event will host vivid shots from local and regional events, particularly within the scope of European Year of Inter-Cultural Dialogue, held by the EU Info Relays in Adana, Antalya, Bursa, Denizli, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, İzmir, Kayseri, Mersin, Samsun, Trabzon, Van and Edirne as well as EU Information Centres in İstanbul and Ankara. The exhibition highlights the role of cultural dialogue and communication in the information of citizens on the European Union and makes reference to the concerts and exhibitions held in several provinces in cooperation with the embassies of the EU Member States in Turkey.

The exhibition, which will be inaugurated on August 26, 2008 will continue until August 29, and may be visited at Yehudi Menuhin Hall of the European Parliament. In the opening ceremony, Turkish Ney player Melih Patoğlu and percussionist Sezgin Bademli will deliver a concert. Belgian singer of Turkish origin Melike Tarhan and her band, too, will participate in the program with a repertoire of Turkish and European melodies. Furthermore, in the scope of the program information visits will be paid and documentary films promoting the activities of EU information network in Turkish provinces will be displayed for members of the European parliament.

With the objective of meeting the information needs about the EU at local level, EU Information Network was rendered operational in 1996 by the European Commission Delegation to Turkey and local partners of Chambers of Commerce and/or Industry in 13 provinces. The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the European Parliament Brussels Information Office in the framework of the Project entitled “Support to EU Information Relays Network in Turkey”, which was signed in 2007 between the Delegation and Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce (GTO) to ensure the coordination of the activities undertaken by EU Information Relay Offices.
