84 Turkish Professionals Awarded Jean Monnet Scholarships for The Academic Year 2008-2009

This year, 84 Turkish professionals have been awarded Jean Monnet Scholarships which aims to support Turkey’s need for qualified human resources on EU legislation in the process of EU accession. With €2.55 million earmarked from EU funds, scholars selected by the Jean Monnet Evaluation Committee, will pursue higher studies in EU accession topics in all areas of the ‘’acquis communautaire’’ including free movement of goods, agriculture and rural development, energy as well as justice and fundamental rights.

The breakdown of scholars for the academic year of 2008-2009 is as follows:



Since 1989, over €20 million have been spent under the Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme, enabling more than 900 new graduates, civil servants as well as private sector employees to study and conduct research in the EU. The programme has a positive impact on the personal and professional development of the scholars. Moreover it helps strengthen the administrative capacity of the Turkish institutions to implement and enforce European legislation.

The Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme is part of the Civil Society Dialogue initiative of the European Commission which aims to generate mutual knowledge and understanding between civil societies in both Turkey and EU Member States.
