Theaterless Mardin hosts second film fest
The southeastern Anatolian province of Mardin, which currently does not have a movie theater, will hold the second edition of its film festival between June 1-5, 2007. The SineMardin Film Festival, organized under the auspices of the Mardin Municipality, will feature a number of award-winning Turkish and foreign feature films and shorts. Among films to be screened at the festival are Nuri Bilge Ceylan's 'İklimler' (Climates), South Korean filmmaker Kim Ki-Duk's 'Time,' Japanese animation master Goro Miyazaki's 'Tales from Earthsea.' The festival will also feature a conference titled 'Mardin as a movie set,' where participants will debate whether TV dramas filmed in historical cities adequately reflect the identities of these cities or not.
