'To Europe with Lokum' Puppet Theatre Launched in İstanbul

Introducing the countries of European Union to Turkish kids is the theme of the puppet show “To Europe with Lokum,” which was launched by the European Commission Delegation to Turkey on February 6, at its EU Information Centre in Istanbul.

In his first-ever appearance to a young audience, Marc Pierini, the Head of the European Commission Delegation to Turkey, said, “As part of the Commission’s efforts to improve the knowledge and understanding of every segment of the public about the European Union, I’m delighted to launch the Lokum Puppet Theatre for Turkish children today.”

The puppet show starts with the appearance of Lokum, a soft, somewhat shapeless smiling figure, the story teller and the guide, singing a Turkish folk song, “Katibim” by the Bosphorus. All of a sudden the kids’ mascot finds himself in a trip across Europe that takes him from the Danube River to the emerald forests of Ireland.

The puppet theatre will perform at least once a month at the EU Information Centre in Istanbul.
