“Trees and Forests of Turkey” Photo Competition Entry Rules and Regulations

  1. The competition is open to all amateur and professional photographers who are over 18 years of age and are Turkish or EU citizens.[1]
  2. The theme of the competition is “Trees and Forests of Turkey”.
  3. It is possible to enter the competition with a maximum of three photos taken after 1 January 2007 in Turkey.
  4. Entrants can apply with colour and/or black and white photos.
  5. The photos that are going to be submitted must have at least 300dpi resolution and the minimum length of the longer side of the photos should be 40cm.
  6. The submitted photos should not have previously received any awards or prizes.
  7. The submitted photos must not have been manipulated using Photoshop or any other similar programs or modified in a dark or an illuminated room.
  8. The submitted photos must have been taken by the person entering the competition.
  9. The applications for the competition will be made through the official website of the Delegation of the European Commission to Turkey (www.avrupa.info.tr). The photos that meet the competition conditions and pass the preliminary selection will be uploaded to the website to participate in the competition.
  10. The deadline to enter the competition is 23 June 2008, 17:00 (Turkish local time).
  11. On behalf of all entrants and those who buy the book ‘Trees and Bushes of Turkey’ between 30 April - 23 June 2008 on the internet (http://kitap.ntvmsnbc.com), a contribution will be made to the ‘Turkey and Europa Forest’ which will be founded in Ankara and an e-certificate will be sent to these parties.
  12. Prizes will be given to those who rank the first, second and third in the competition. The winner of the first prize will be awarded a Nikon D300 camera and lenses, the first runner-up will be awarded a Nikon D200 camera and lenses and the second runner-up will be awarded a Nikon D40X camera and lenses. The winners will also receive a one-year subscription to the National Geographic Turkey Magazine.
  13. Throughout the competition, there will also be public voting through the website, www.avrupa.info.tr. As a result of this voting, winners of the week and the month will be selected. The winners of the week will be awarded the publication, Global Warming Atlas; the winners of the month will be awarded the books, March of the Penguins and Wild Life. At the end of the competition, the owner of the photo that receives the highest number of votes will be awarded a two-year subscription to the National Geographic Turkey Magazine.
  14. The photos submitted for the competition will be kept in the archives of the Delegation of the European Commission to Turkey. The European Commission, the Delegation of the European Commission to Turkey, the European Union Information Centres and the EU Information Centres will be able to use these photos in books, brochures, posters, catalogues, calendars, magazines and website publications by acknowledging the name of the photo owner. In addition, by entering the competition, entrants accept the use of their photos in exhibitions and in the media for promotional purposes by acknowledging the name of the photo owner.
  15. All the information stated in the application form is binding for the entrant. Any legal obligation that could arise from the said information shall be borne by the entrant.
  16. The winners will be announced within two weeks following the deadline of the competition.
  17. The decision-making authority for any other issues that are not covered in this announcement will exclusively be the Delegation of the European Commission to Turkey and the National Geographic Turkey Magazine.
  18. At any stage of the competition, the photos which are understood to be falling short of any of the requirements mentioned above will be disqualified. In this case, any prizes awarded should be returned to the organising committee.
  19. Rules of entry and regulations of this competition consists of nineteen (19) terms including this article. Entry into this competition confirms each entrant's acceptance of these rules and regulations.

[1] The members of the Contest Selection Committee, the employees of the Delegation of the European Commission to Turkey, the Communication Program, National Geographic Magazine, NTV and Radio Mydonose and their relatives are not eligible to participate in the competition.
