Civil Society Dialogue in 2006 and Before

Civil Society Dialogue in 2006

  • “Small Projects Programme: Strengthening Civil Society Dialogue” (€750.000)
This programme supported the broad goal of deepening dialogue and enhancing mutual understanding between civil society in Turkey and the EU Member States. 17 projects were carried out in 2006 with partners in 13 countries. These projects covered a variety of issues, including youth, business community dialogue, minority rights, regional development and disabled persons.
  • “Civil Society Dialogue: Europa-Bridges of Knowledge” (€2 million)
The 27 civic cooperation projects under this programme focus on establishing networks and strengthening existing collaboration between NGOs and universities based in Turkey and the EU to enhance Turkey’s expertise on EU law.
  • “Strengthening Civil Society Dialogue: Participation in NGO events in the EU” (€50.000)
This programme provides financial support for study visits, exchanges and NGO participation in platforms, meetings and conferences in the EU.
  • “Civil Society Dialogue: Culture in Action” (€1.45 million)
This call for proposals provides funding for joint EU-Turkey cultural projects on the one hand and information/media activities regarding EU affairs on the other. The 15 projects selected aim at raising public interest in Turkey in different aspects of European art and culture and increasing knowledge of the EU accession process.

Civil Society Dialogue 2004/2005

In its first year, the Civil Society Dialogue built on previous activities, in particular the Greek-Turkish civic dialogue under which a variety of Greek-Turkish cooperation projects were supported between 2004 and 2005. A total of four civil society dialogue grant schemes were implemented in 2006 providing EC financial support worth € 4.33 million to more than 70 dialogue and cooperation projects.

For example, a new generation of European Horizons and Mosaic programmes, “Civil Society Dialogue: Culture in Action” managed by the EC Delegation in Ankara, promotes cross-border cooperation between EU and Turkish non-governmental organisations. The programme provided funding of €1.45 million for joint EU-Turkey cultural projects on the one hand and information/media activities regarding EU matters on the other.
