European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008
The European Commission has declared 2008 the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue to highlight the contribution of different cultures to the lives of people across Europe, encourage people to explore the benefits of this rich cultural heritage and learn from different cultures. The campaign aims to raise awareness that culture and intercultural dialogue are essential for learning to live together in harmony.
For this purpose, the Commission, Member States and their partners are organising a wide range of events throughout 2008. These include concerts, exhibitions, workshops, competitions, and various other projects. For a detailed agenda of the year, please click here.
As part of its campaign, the Commission has nominated high-profile figures, who are committed to, and share, the aims of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue as Ambassadors, including famous Turkish pianist and composer Fazıl Say. The Ambassadors lend their support to making the Year a success.
Parallel to the events across Europe, there will also be several activities in Turkey throughout 2008. These will be organised as part of the communications programme of the Delegation of the European Commission in Turkey. Within the larger framework of the Civil Society Dialogue, these activities will include a short film competition, EU-Turkey Conference of Journalists and special activities for the media.
