EU and Turkey to Celebrate 10th Anniversary of a Real Success Story: IPARD AgencyEU and Turkey to Celebrate 10th Anniversary of a Real Success Story: IPARD Agency
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the IPARD Agency, a Rural Development gathering will be organised in Antalya on 19 May 2017, with the participation of HE Faruk Çelik, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock and Mr Gabriel Munuera Vinals, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey.
The Law establishing the IPARD Agency was published 10 years ago. Since then, thanks to the joint efforts of all parties involved, the IPARD Programme became a real success story.
Rural economy faces nowadays significant responsibilities to tackle challenges relating to food safety, climate change, growth and jobs in rural areas. A sound Rural Development Policy needs to support those who are in the first line to take up those challenges. As is the case for the EU rural development policy, IPARD plays a key part in promoting smart, sustainable and inclusive growth of rural communities in Turkey too. IPARD's funding for Turkey from the EU budget is significant - more than €1.5 billion during the 2007 to 2020 period. When taken together with national Turkish resources and private funding from beneficiaries, the total investment is in the range of €4 billion for the 2007 to 2020 period.
IPARD has already brought a tangible contribution to improving the lives of Turkey's rural citizens. So far, the IPARD program has provided investment support to 11,000 projects, developing farms, food processing companies, rural enterprises and rural diversification initiatives; it has created an estimated 56,000 jobs.
This programme is, therefore, already making a real difference in rural development and can do even more in the coming years.
