CIVIL SOCIETY DIALOGUE PROJECT II
The Civil Society Dialogue Project has been supporting civil society organisations to work together in various sectors and in so doing help them to share technical expertise and experiences and develop long term relationships, as well as to deepen an understanding of Turkey within EU societies and of the EU within Turkish society. For the period October 2010 to July 2012, CSOs in the specific sectors of Culture and Arts, and Agriculture and Fisheries are being supported with a total budget of 5.3 million Euros. This is resulting in nearly 200 CSOs from Turkey and the EU taking part in more than 300 major activities of grant-funded projects, touching the lives of more than 850,000 people.

From the fishing folk of Sinop on the Turkish Black Sea coast, to the banana growers on Spain's Canary Islands, to the marketeers of Latvia, and the Rotary Club members on the slopes of Mt. Nemrut, the dialogue of civil society is becoming louder and stronger. Such blending requires the comprehensive harmonisation of laws, regulations and standards, and, although this work is largely driven by governments, non-governmental organisations also have much to contribute. For these reasons the Government of Turkey and the Member States of the EU have, since 2005, plaed great emphasis on supporting a dialogue amongst Civil Society Organisations, helping them technically and financially to forge partnerships, build networks and contribute to Turkey's EU accession. The European Union enlargement is an economic and political process, but at the same time it is a blending process of various societies.
