Don’t Forget to Mark Your Calendars; Human Rights Film Days are Coming in December

The 5th EU Human Rights Film Days, an event organized in collaboration with The European Union Delegation to Turkey and the cultural centers of the EU Member States, will be held in Istanbul and Ankara around the 10 December Human Rights Day.

The film days will provide a venue for students, human rights activists, movie-goers and all interested in the subject to view a variety of documentary films on the theme of human rights in Ankara (7-20 December) and Istanbul (09-18 December).

In Istanbul, the German Goethe Institute, the Spanish Cervantes Institute, the French Institute, Austrian Cultural Forum and the Italian Cultural Center and in Ankara the Büyülü Fener Cinema will be screening the films free of charge for all movie enthusiasts.

More than 30 films from 28 European countries – including Turkey – will be screened at the festival.

The films, screened in three broad categories – War and Justice, Less than Equal and A World Woth Living in -,  touch on issues such as the plight of the refugees, women and children’s rights, discrimination, international justice, and climate change. A number of directors, NGOs and human rights activists are invited to debate with the public after the screenings, to encourage reflection and discussion.

Join us at the cinemas as of 7 December in Ankara and at selected EU cultural centers as of 9 December in Istanbul, as well as at the official Human Rights Film Days opening on 10 December at the Ankara Büyülü Fener Cinema, where the best young directors will be handed the EU Human Rights Short Film Festival awards!
