2019 - European Union Human Rights Film Days

Dear viewers, cinema enthusiasts and human rights defenders,

On the occasion of the 10 December Human Rights Day, the EU Delegation organises for the ninth year in a row its Film Days to reflect on, discuss about and watch films that tackle fundamental human rights issues.

A total of 12 films shot by European and Turkish directors will be screened in Ankara, Istanbul and Antalya between 5-8 December at the 9th EU Human Rights Film Days.

A fine selection of European films tell the stories of

the extraordinary discoveries made during a 50,000 km hitchhiking journey on a shoestring budget over 3,5 years;

the struggle to change the perceptions of young boys and male adolescents in the fight against violence against women;

Stefan Zweig's years in exile in South America;

the bond between guide dogs and human beings in praise of humanity's fighting spirit;

the declining appeal of urban life and the pressures we face in a world where people's incomes cannot keep up with soaring housing prices;

lives that are changed due to urban renewal efforts;

the fight to live one’s life according to one's own culture in the face of racial bias;

the epic struggle for justice waged by victims of a dictatorship against attempts to erase from memory crimes against humanity;

a childhood that is stuck in a warzone;

children who are left to fend for themselves in nature and more.

With the magical language of cinema guiding us, we will use these films to once again reflect on the issue of human rights. Justice, the right to live in a clean and healthy environment, the right to think and express oneself freely, the preservation of human dignity, the rights of persons with disabilities, the rights of children and women and many more...

2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child.  It also marks the 85th anniversary of Turkish women being granted the right to political representation.

Join us to watch, reflect and engage in a discussion after the film screenings. Let us raise awareness together about our universal values.
