An EU project of € 2M was launched to establish a well-structured standard training system in all 5 Personnel Training Centres of the Penal Institutions of Turkey by ensuring high-quality lecturers & trainers. 

The project will be implemented together with the Finnish Criminal Sanctions Agency and the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences.

Deputy Minister of Justice Zekeriya Birkan, the General Director of Criminal Sanctions Agency of Finland Mr Arto Kujala, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Finland in Turkey Ms Pirjo Valinoro and Deputy Head of the Embassy of Estonia Indrek Erikson, also participated in the event.

"It has now been recognised as a key general principle that “prison staff carry out a very important public service. 

It is also universally accepted that the prison staff training centres play a crucial role in improving the staff's attitude towards the inmates", said Ms Eleftheria Pertzinidou, Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Turkey.
