EU Hosts “Youth for Culture” Forum in Muş
Hundreds of young people from all around Turkey met in Muş on 4-5 October for an initiative of the European Union to mark the European Year for Cultural Heritage.
Ambassador Christian Berger hosted the event together with Governor Aziz Yıldırım, Mayor Feyat Asya and the Rector of Muş Alparslan University Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat on 5 October 2018 at Muş Alparslan University Congress Center.
The Forum witnessed two days of intense workshops on cultural identity, cultural diversity and cultural heritage with a focus on how young generations can play a role in the protection of this heritage. These sessions launched by thought-provoking inspirational speeches, followed by moderated panel debates bringing in experiences, views and questions from the audience.
Among the speakers are prominent names such as Rasim Öztekin (actor), Veysel Diker (stage actor from Muş), Yüksel Aksu (writer, director) and Jale İncekol (director) who debated with the audience and shared their personal stories explaining why preserving our tangible and intangible cultural heritage matters.
The event also served as a cultural networking opportunity and highlighted culture's role in breeding talent and creativity. The Forum reflected on culture's contribution to EU’s priorities such as innovation, jobs and growth, social cohesion and intercultural dialogue.
