The East of Ukraine turned into war zone in 2014. Military and political leaders are fighting for large territories where ordinary people live in and who want nothing but to live without fear of bombing, shooting, and disruption. Slovak photographer Juraj Mravec was originally planning to travel through the territory of the entire former Soviet Union and to document the everyday life of the former brotherly nations. However, the visit of eastern Ukraine has forced him to concentrate precisely on conflict areas that are not under the control of the Ukrainian government. The photographer visits not only ordinary people living in the military zone but also soldiers and veterans and listens to the stories they have experienced.
