Flagship Projects: Economic and Trade Relations

The European Union’s efforts to boost Turkey’s competiveness have naturally focused on the backbone of the Turkish economy, the small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) sector. As the main problem faced by SMEs is access to capital, a number of projects facilitated better access of SMEs to finance, such as in the fashion and textile industry, and in supporting commercial chambers and business parks, particularly in less-developed areas. In addition, measures were undertaken to underpin commercial activity through strengthening intellectual and industrial property rights as well as the quality infrastructure. Chambers of commerce were also encouraged to build up their links with their EU counterparts and to inform their members about EU matters.
