Fully integrate Turkey into the EU's Internal Electricity Market

TR0702.05-Rehabilitation of the Frequency Control Performance of Turkish Power System for Synchronous Operation with European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E)

The overall objective was to fully integrate the Turkish Electricity Market into the EU's Internal Electricity Market. The project has created quite positive improvements on the parallel trial interconnection of the Turkish power grid with the ENTSO-E’s Continental European Synchronous Area. Thus, the investment and costly back-up measures were significantly reduced by the contributions to the project on both the Greece-Bulgaria and Turkey sides for the future security of electricity supply alongside the interoperability of grids. The Turkish electricity market is now a part of the internal electricity market of the EU. The commercial exchange between ENTSO-E and Turkey is currently ongoing with a great success. The total budget of the project was €2.5 million (EU's contribution: €2.5 million).
