78th Meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee was held in Ankara

The 78th meeting of the European Union-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) took place in Ankara on December 19-20, 2018 under the auspices of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT).
The members of the JPC and sub-committee on Security and Defence (SEDE) first met with Ambassador Christian Berger, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Turkey and Heads of Missions from EU member states followed by a meeting with the civil society organizations. The EU Delegation also met with Ambassador Faruk Kaymakçı, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs.
The JPC plays a vital role in contributing to EU-Turkey relations by building dialogue on parliamentary level and it is gathering its meetings since 1966 in rotation between the premises of the EU and Turkey. "Turkey-EU Relations and State of Play of Accession Negotiations", "Economic Cooperation between Turkey and the EU" and "Security Challenges" were discussed in the official programme of the JPC.
European Parliament Members chaired by Manolis Kefalogiannis, Turkish MPs headed by JPC Co-Chair İsmail Emrah Karayel; alongside with Deputy Director-General, European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Maciej Popowski, Head of EU Delegation to Turkey Ambassador Christian Berger, Ambassador Ulrike Tilly representing Austrian Presidency of the Council of the EU, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakçı, Director General for International Security Affairs in MFA Ambassador Alper Coşkun and Deputy Director General at the DG for EU and Foreign Affairs in Ministry of Trade Mehmet Tan have addressed the meeting. Representatives from the EU Member States were also present in the meeting.
