Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut visited the Anitkabir Mausoleum
Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut today visited the Anitkabir Mausoleum to pay respects to Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, after having submitted his letter of credence yesterday to President Erdoğan.
In his visitors’ log message, Meyer-Landrut called attention to Ataturk’s legacy of peace and prosperity:
As I take up my assignment in Turkey, I am greatly honoured to have the opportunity to pay my respects to the Turkish nation, and to lay this wreath at your mausoleum in your memory as the founder of the Republic of Turkey.
Your legacy keeps inspiring us to contribute to a better world in which our nations may live and prosper in peace and dignity.
At an important time in our relations, I look forward to representing the European Union in Turkey, a candidate country for EU membership and a partner of strategic importance for the EU.
May you rest in peace."
