Happy Birthday Erasmus from İzmir!
EU Delegation's visit to İzmir's Ege University on 19 December ended one year of festivities in Turkey to celebrate 30 years of the EU's Erasmus Plus programme.
The EU Delegation, Turkey's Ministry of EU Affairs, and its National Agency jointly organised the last event in 2017 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Erasmus+ with students and academics in İzmir. On the occasion, the Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey, Ambassador Christian Berger, met with university students and civil society representatives, who were informed on Erasmus+ benefits and application procedures through informative sessions and presentations. The EU Delegation visited Ege University and 9 Eylül University on the occasion of the 30th birthday of Erasmus+, providing students an opportunity to discuss the Erasmus+ programme, EU-Turkey relations and EU-funded projects in Turkey directly with the Head of the EU Delegation, Christian Berger.
The Head of the EU Delegation, Christian Berger, enriched his trip to Izmir with visits to local authorities. He discussed with the Mayor of İzmir Mr. Aziz Kocaoğlu, the Chairman of the Association of Aegean Businessman and Industrialists Mr Fadıl Sivri, and İzmir Commodity Exchange's Işınsu Kerestecioğlu.
Since the launch of the Erasmus programme in Turkey, more than half a million Turkish citizens benefitted from projects with allocations of over €1 billion. 55,000 European students came to Turkey through the Erasmus programme since then.
