A big step for the sustainable fishing in Turkey: EU-Turkey Twinning Project is completed to reinforce the Turkish Fisheries Management System
The closing event of the EU-supported Twinning Project on the "Reinforcement of the Turkish Fisheries Management System" will take place on 6th of September in Ankara. The event will be attended by the Deputy Head of EU Delegation to Turkey, Mr Gabriel Munuera Vinals.
The Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) of the European Union aims to ensure that fishing and aquaculture are environmentally, economically and socially sustainable and that they provide a source of healthy food for consumers. Fostering a dynamic fishing industry and ensuring a fair standard of living for fishing communities are also amongst the objectives of the CFP.
The main goal of fisheries management under the Common Fisheries Policy is to ensure high long-term fishing yields for all fishing stocks. This Twinning project, with its budget of €1.690.000, can be seen as another important step for further reinforcement of the Turkish fisheries management system.
The Head of the EU Delegation, Ambassador Christian Berger, said on the occasion "We believe that Turkish Fisheries Management system has been progressing in the direction of the sustainable fishing. We are confident that our support trough pre-accession assistance projects have been contributing and will continue to contribute this process."
The project has been implemented in cooperation with Turkish and Spanish Administrations.
