EU Hosts “Youth for Culture” Forum in Muş

Wed, 03.10.2018 - 15:26

Hundreds of young people from all around Turkey will meet in Muş on 4-5 October for an initiative of the European Union to mark the European Year for Cultural Heritage.

Ambassador Christian Berger will host the event together with Governor Aziz Yıldırım, Mayor Feyat Asya and the Rector of Muş Alparslan University Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat on 5 October 2018 at Muş Alparslan University Congress Center.

The Forum will witness two days of intense workshops on cultural identity, cultural diversity and cultural heritage with a focus on how young generations can play a role in the protection of this heritage. These sessions will be launched by thought-provoking inspirational speeches, followed by moderated panel debates bringing in experiences, views and questions from the audience.

Among the speakers are prominent names such as Rasim Öztekin (actor), Veysel Diker (stage actor from Muş), Yüksel Aksu (writer, director) and Jale İncekol (director) who will debate with the audience and share their personal stories explaining why preserving our tangible and intangible cultural heritage matters.

The event will also serve as a cultural networking opportunity and will highlight culture's role in breeding talent and creativity. The Forum will reflect on culture's contribution to EU’s priorities such as innovation, jobs and growth, social cohesion and intercultural dialogue.

Throughout 2018, we have been celebrating our diverse cultural heritage at EU, national, regional and local level. The aim of the European Year of Cultural Heritage is to encourage more people to discover and engage with Europe's cultural heritage, and to reinforce a sense of belonging to a common space. The slogan for the year is: "Our heritage: where the past meets the future". The year belongs to all to experience, appreciate, and enjoy cultural heritage. Everyone is invited to join the thousands of activities taking place across Europe to involve people more closely with cultural heritage. Key stakeholders from the cultural sector as well as civil society organisations are closely involved in the year’s activities. The EU Delegation to Turkey has organised numerous cultural events around the year across the country. For more information please visit and follow the event on our social media accounts
