The results of the EU-funded project supporting Turkey in its efforts to develop capacity of its workforce in Information and Communication Technologies were marked at a ceremony in Ankara on 10 October. The event was attended by the Rector of Middle East Technical University Prof. Dr. Mustafa Verşan Kök, EU Delegation Head of Section for Economic and Social Development, Counsellor François Begeot and the representative of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
The EU-funded project worth € 3.4 million is launched in December 2015; in order to increase the adaptability of employees, employers and enterprises in their ICT-related skills and abilities.
The project developed 100 online courses responding to the needs of different segments of the labour market. These courses are accessible through an online learning platform called BİLGE-İŞ that is established under the project.
In such a short time period, the number of registered users in the BİLGE-İŞ online learning portal exceeded 25,000. More than 10,000 certificates issued.
To mark the finalization and achievements of the project, Ambassador Christian Berger, Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey said: "In order to make best of the opportunities of the digital age, businesses need to adapt to changes in their operation and in their human resources. This project provided online courses that are key for SMEs to catch up with the technological developments and to increase their capacities. In this respect, the figures reached so far are remarkable."
The sustainability of the project has been ensured through the supply component of the project. The necessary equipment for the BİLGE-İŞ portal and for the making of new online courses has been procured. METU will continue to develop new courses with the help of this equipment. Partnership protocols signed with various stakeholders such as chambers of commerce and industry, professional organisations, NGOs and universities will contribute to the further development of the BİLGE-İŞ portal and its sustainability.
