The New EU Programme Supports Human Rights Monitoring in Turkey

On Wednesday 3 July, ETKINIZ was launched, a new programme funded by the EU to support civil society organisations engaged in the promotion and monitoring of Human Rights in Turkey.  The Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey, Ambassador Christian Berger, attended the kick-off meeting.


What is the scope of the programme?

ETKİNİZ is a new programme which supports civil society organisations engaging in promoting and monitoring Human Rights and aiming at better compliance with the international human rights framework. The programme is financed under the Civil Society Facility, an EU instrument designed to strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations in the EU Candidate Countries. About the Launch Event:

More than 100 representatives of civil society organisations and donor organisations, including the Directorate of EU Affairs of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the Launch Forum of ETKINIZ organised in Bestepe Atlispor Kulubu in Ankara.


On Human Rights Monitoring:

We hope that ETKINIZ will be widely used not only by civil society organisations but also by all citizens and officials willing to work towards the promotion and strengthening of Human Rights in Turkey.  ETKINIZ can be a crucial tool to support Turkey in strengthening compliance with international obligations." said Ambassador Christian Berger, Head of the EU Delegation in Turkey, on this occasion.
