Organised by the EU Information Centres Network and Ankara AKS the one-week event aimed at starting a discussion about the New European Bauhaus concept in Turkey.
More than 400 young architects attended hybrid seminars and workshops between the dates of 28 June – 5 July to discuss the past, present and the future of Bauhaus. Architects Ulf Meyer, Ali Artun, Merve Titiz Akman, Claire Kimball Johnson, And Akman and Cem Dedekarginoglu as well as academicians Bulent Batuman, Esin Boyacioglu, Zeynep Yasa Yaman and Lale Ozgenel joined the sessions with inspiring speeches on building a future that is sustainable.
On the occassion Ambassador Meyer-Landrut said: I strongly believe that any initiative launched about “sustainability” and the “fight against the climate crisis” has to spread beyond Europe. This conversation on sustainable buildings, which is a crucial part of mitigating and adapting to climate change, needs to be stimulated everywhere around the world. Therefore, I am happy to see that, here in Turkey, young, motivated and visionary people share this ambition and have started a conversation around the topic. The young representatives of Ankara AKS launched this inspiring initiative around the New European Bauhaus and I am pleased to support their efforts”.
What is the New European Bauhaus?
It is a flagship project launched by the European Commission in January 2021 for a sustainable green transformation in housing, architecture, transportation, urban, and rural spaces as part of its effort to reach climate neutrality by 2050. It brings the European Green Deal to the living places and calls for a collective effort to imagine and build a sustainable future. It aims at creating a community, a movement that could support the transformation of the places where we live into beautiful, sustainable and inclusive places. It is the EU’s response to the question of “How do we make our buildings better and fit for the future?”.
