03/04/2019

Today, nineteen new partnerships between the EU and Turkey's business chambers will start in Istanbul with a kick-off event as part of the EU-Turkey Business Dialogue programme. The programme brings closer the Turkish chambers of commerce, industry and commodity exchanges and their EU counterparts to exchange views and practices and to improve dialogue. The partnerships are funded through the EU's Instrument of Pre-Accession, IPA. The EU-Turkey Business Dialogue programme is implemented by Eurochambres in cooperation with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, TOBB. The kick-off event will be attended by Ambassador Faruk KAYMAKÇI, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Minister Gabriel MUNUERA VINALS, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey; and the President of TOBB, Mr. Rifat HİSARCIKLIOĞLU. The EU is contributing some €2.45 million to these partnerships, as part of the programme's €5 million budget.

The EU-Turkey Business Dialogue programme aims to strengthen mutual knowledge and understanding between Turkish chambers and their counterparts in the EU, thus promoting the integration of EU and Turkish business communities and ensuring a stronger awareness of the opportunities and challenges of Turkey’s potential future accession to the EU. The activities cover about 26 provinces and chambers in Turkey partnering with chambers from 12 different EU Member States. The chambers will work together on many topics, ranging from digitilisation to SME coaching; from clustering to cooperation in the automotive sector; as well as improvement of value added in hazelnut production, trade integration, energy efficiency, innovation and women entrepreneurship. The partnerships will last up to 15 months.[1]

The EU-Turkey Business Dialogue project is the continuation of the past Chamber Dialogue projects which started with the Turkish Chamber Development Programme (TCDP) in 2001 as part of the EU’s “Civil Society Development Programme”. This programme was followed by the EU-Turkey Chambers Forum Projects (ETCF-I and II) from 2007-2009 and 2012-2014. The ETCF projects were financed by the EU with a total amount of € 9.5 million.
