Ambassador Nikolaus-Meyer Landrut, author-activist Zülfü Livaneli and author Buket Uzuner will meet the young participants of the EU-Turkey Youth Climate Forum on 26 October 2021 in Istanbul. The event is organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey on the occasion of the EU Climate Diplomacy Weeks.
The EU- Turkey Youth Climate Forum is organised in cooperation with the EU Information Centres Network and the “Science Virus” with the aim to encourage young high school and university students in Turkey to generate solution-oriented proposals vis-à-vis the global climate crisis.
The Forum will bring together 100 young people, including the EU Young Climate Ambassadors, from all corners of Turkey. Inspired by the UN Climate Youth Summit in Milan, the concrete proposals developed by the young participants will be presented to local leaders as the response of the Turkish youth to the climate crisis.
On the occasion of the event Ambassador Meyer-Landrut said:
“The risks brought about by climate change have an increasing effect on societies. We need global solidarity to combat this crisis.
The EU is working with all partners including Turkey to reach the targets of the Paris Climate agreement. We run many campaigns and organise events to increase the awareness of individuals.
The EU - Turkey Youth Climate Forum is one of them. This forum is part of the #rightclimatetochange campaign. Taking this opportunity, the young EU Climate Ambassadors from Turkey will raise their voices for urgent and ambitious climate action”.
