Vice-President Margaritis Schinas, responsible for coordinating migration and security policies, will be tonight and tomorrow in Ankara, Turkey

Vice-President Margaritis Schinas, responsible for coordinating migration and security policies, will be tonight and tomorrow in Ankara, Turkey. 

This visit is the fourth stop in a tour of partner countries key to putting a stop to the instrumentalisation of migrants by the Belarussian regime and aims to further reinforce the overall cooperation on migration and security. 

The Vice-President will convey the message that Migration management is a shared responsibility and joint priority both for the European Union and for Turkey. 

In Ankara tonight, the Vice-President will meet with the Foreign Affairs Minister of Turkey, Mr Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. 

Tomorrow, Vice-President Schinas will meet with the Vice-President of the Republic of Turkey, H.E. Fuat Oktay. 

The visit of the Vice-President will continue with a meeting with the Interior Minister of Turkey, Mr Suleyman Soylu and with the Vice-President’s participation to a roundtable event organised by the EU directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with Turkey’s National Erasmus Agency meant to highlight Turkey’s association to Horizon Europe, Erasmus+ and the Solidarity Corps. 

The deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Mr Faruk Kaymakci will participate to the roundtable, along with Turkish and Foreign students.

On his visit European Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas, responsible for coordinating migration and security policies, said:

«Migration management is a shared responsibility and joint priority both for the European Union and for Turkey.
We work successfully in the framework of our overall cooperation on migration. Now we also need to address new hybrid threats, including state-sponsored human smuggling.
I am coming to Ankara today to thank the Turkish authorities for the recent measures to halt the abuse of desperate migrants by smuggling networks, and to further reinforce our overall cooperation on migration and security.»
